Futaba Ooki is a very beautiful sixteen-year-old, with long black hair and an intense look, who has just moved to Izu, a seaside town on the peninsula of the same name in Shizuoka prefecture, and has not yet made any new acquaintances. For this reason she is constantly glued to her cell phone to text with the friends she left behind in Tokyo. One day, going to the beach on his scooter, he meets an elderly lady who runs a sort of kiosk for divers. Exchanging a few words while they observe the ocean, Futaba learns that Hikari Kohinata, the woman's niece, attends the same school as her, Yumegaoka High School. But who is Hikari? She is a fifteen-year-old girl with short hair, a little absent-minded and hyperactive but very lively and spontaneous, she wears a whistle around her neck and goes by the nickname Pikari. She lives with her grandmother on the beach and has two great passions: pork soup and scuba diving which she usually teaches in her free time. Shortly thereafter, starting from the journey to school on the first day of class, the two girls will have the opportunity to get to know each other. Although they appear to be the opposite of each other, they soon discover that they share a common passion for the sea and it will be this interest that binds their destinies. Pikari will push Dotty (as she will be immediately renamed Futaba by Hikari) to follow her in the school diving club led by the dynamic teacher Mato Katori (a character already present in Amano's first work, Roman Club, unpublished in Italy) and to start an adventure together in the silent and fascinating underwater ocean worlds.

Futaba Ooki è una sedicenne molto bella, con lunghi capelli neri e sguardo intenso, che si è appena trasferita a Izu, città di mare dell’omonima penisola nella prefettura di Shizuoka, e non ha ancora fatto nuove conoscenze. Per questo motivo è costantemente attaccata al cellulare a messaggiare con gli amici che ha lasciato a Tokyo. Un giorno, andando alla spiaggia a bordo del suo scooter, incontra un’anziana signora che gestisce una sorta di chiosco per subacquei. Scambiando qualche parola mentre osservano l’oceano, Futaba viene a sapere che Hikari Kohinata, la nipote della donna, frequenta la sua stessa scuola, l’istituto superiore Yumegaoka. Ma chi è Hikari? È una tipina di quindici anni dai capelli corti, un po’ svampita e iperattiva ma molto vitale e spontanea, porta al collo un fischietto e si fa soprannominare Pikari. Vive con sua nonna sulla spiaggia e ha due grandi passioni: la zuppa di maiale e le immersioni subacquee che è solita insegnare nel tempo libero. Di lì a poco, già a partire dal viaggio verso la scuola il primo giorno di lezione, le due fanciulle avranno modo di fare conoscenza. Sebbene appaiano una l’opposto dell’altra, scoprono ben presto di condividere una comune passione per il mare e sarà proprio questo interesse a legare i loro destini. Pikari spingerà Dotty (così verrà immediatamente ribattezzata Futaba da Hikari) a seguirla nel club scolastico di immersioni guidato dalla dinamica insegnante Mato Katori (personaggio già presente nel primo lavoro della Amano, Roman Club, inedito in Italia) e a iniziare un’avventura insieme nei silenziosi e affascinanti mondi sommersi oceanici.
