Nei quarti di finale Tao Bai Bai e Tenshinhan si affrontano e, nonostante l'aumento di forza, il Cyborg non può nulla contro l'ex allievo di suo fratello, che lo sconfigge senza sforzo, intimando a lui ed all'Eremita della Gru di non farsi più vedere. Il secondo incontro si svolge fra Son Goku ed una combattente anonima, disposta a rivelare a Goku il suo nome solo in caso di sconfitta. Goku vince e lei rivela la sua identità: è Chichi, la figlia di Giumaho, che aveva fatto promettere a Goku di sposarla, senza che quest'ultimo conoscesse il significato di tale parola. Per mantenere fede alla parola data, Goku accetta di sposarla. Il terzo incontro si svolge fra Majunior e Crilin. Nonostante Crilin riesca a battersi egregiamente, il suo avversario si dimostra troppo forte, ed il giovane è costretto ad arrendersi. Il quarto incontro si svolge fra Divo e Yamcha, e viene vinto dal primo, in realtà Dio sotto false sembianze. Il primo incontro delle semifinali si svolge fra Tenshinhan e Goku. Nonostante Goku possieda maggiore potenza, Tenshinhan si dimostra più veloce, riuscendo a mettere Goku in difficoltà. Quando Goku si toglie i pesi però, la situazione si ribalta e Goku vince. Il secondo incontro delle semifinali si svolge fra Piccolo e Divo. Quest'ultimo, dopo un breve scambio di colpi, rivela la sua identità all'avversario.
