In Hokkaido, the northernmost region of Japan, Sugimoto survived the Russo-Japanese War of the Meiji era. Nicknamed "the invincible Sugimoto" during the war, he now begins his gold rush in search of the riches that will allow him to save the wife of one of his comrades who died during the war. During the search he comes across some clues that suggest the existence of a gold reserve managed by corrupt criminals. Accompanied by an Ainu girl who saved his life tested by the terrible climate of the north, the two begin their adventure against the criminals.
