Some children are housed inside a mysterious structure with a green area. During a test, Tokio receives a fleeting message that reads: "Would you like to go outside?", and from that moment he begins to wonder what the world outside is like. Elsewhere, Maru and Kiruko, engaged in a daily struggle for survival in what remains of Japan, are searching for "paradise"... The search for "tomato paradise" has led Maru and Kiruko to the Kusakabe plantation, which however it soon turns out not to be the place they are looking for at all. During the return trip, aboard a ferry, Maru learns about Kiruko's past. Meanwhile, Kuku tells Tokyo that there are faceless babies inside the school...

Dentro a una misteriosa struttura dotata di un'area verde sono ospitati dei ragazzini. Durante una verifica, Tokio riceve un fugace messaggio che recita: "Vorresti andare all'esterno dell'esterno?", e da quel momento comincia a chiedersi come sia il mondo al di fuori. Altrove, Maru e Kiruko, impegnati in una quotidiana lotta per la sopravvivenza in ciò che resta del Giappone, sono alla ricerca del "paradiso"... La ricerca del "paradiso dei pomodori" ha portato Maru e Kiruko alla piantagione Kusakabe, che però si rivela ben presto non essere affatto il luogo che stanno cercando. Durante il viaggio di ritorno, a bordo di un traghetto, Maru viene a conoscenza del passato di Kiruko. Nel frattempo, Kuku racconta a Tokio che all'interno della scuola ci sono dei neonati senza faccia...
