La storia della scimmia dorata Son Goku, nata nel classico della letteratura cinese “Viaggio verso Occidente” e oggi celeberrima grazie a numerosi adattamenti di successo, viene tradotta per la prima volta a fumetti dal più grande mangaka di sempre, Osamu Tezuka, in una delle sue opere più apprezzate degli anni Cinquanta. Son Goku, magica scimmietta nata da una roccia, approfitta delle proprie straordinarie abilità e si comporta come un bimbetto dispettoso ed egoista. Ormai fuori controllo, viene imprigionato per punizione nientemeno che da Buddha; a salvarlo è il monaco Sanzohoshi, che la scimmia decide di accompagnare lungo il suo viaggio in India.
