Ganta is a studious but irritable and antisocial high school student who is poorly tolerated by his classmates. His bad attitude, however, is the result of a serious form of insomnia, which often forces him to spend entire nights without a single minute of rest. For this reason, he is constantly and desperately looking for a place to isolate himself and get a few hours of sleep. While seeking asylum in the astronomical observatory of his high school, a place abandoned following mysterious events, the young man comes across Isaki, a schoolmate who, unlike him, is very popular and well-liked but who, just like him, seems to be able to sleep at peace only in that classroom.
