we are in Japan in the early 80s. One day Satoru's father comes home with incredible news: they will install a "robot" in the factory where he works as a worker! Satoru, lively and curious as he is, can't stand it anymore... he absolutely must see that latest generation car. the opportunity will arrive shortly thereafter, thanks to a guided tour with his elementary school, during which he meets Marin, his age, with whom he falls in love. the two meet again one evening and secretly enter the factory, where they begin to play with the robot, increasingly amazed and fascinated by the amount of information that the machine can learn and remember. Satoru and Marin thus begin to take care of him as if they were his parents, accompanying his "growth" step by step, while in this, thanks to the interaction with the pure and naive feelings of childhood, a sort of rudimentary self-awareness begins to arise

siamo in giappone nei primi anni '80. un giorno il padre di satoru torna a casa con una notizia incredibile: nella fabbrica in cui lavora come operaio installeranno un "robot"! satoru, vivace e curioso com'è, non sta più nella pelle... deve assolutamente vedere quella macchina di ultima generazione. l'opportunità arriverà, di lì a poco, grazie a una visita guidata con la sua scuola elementare, durante la quale si imbatte in marin, sua coetanea, di cui si innamora. i due, una sera, si rincontrano ed entrano di nascosto nella fabbrica, dove iniziano a giocare con il robot, sempre più sbalorditi e affascinati dalla quantità di informazioni che la macchina può apprendere e ricordare. satoru e marin cominciano così a prendersene cura quasi ne fossero i genitori, accompagnandone la "crescita" passo passo, mentre in questa, grazie all'interazione con i sentimenti puri e ingenui dell'infanzia, comincia a sorgere una sorta di rudimentale autocoscienza
