In ancient Greece, the mild and sensitive Demetrius is a painter of amphorae, on which he illustrates glimpses of daily life, myths, legends and sports scenes - despite the fact that he is actually averse to any type of competition and denied any physical activity. However, he himself is chosen to represent his village in a competition that will decide the fate of his people. Scared and afflicted, he takes refuge in a large terracotta vase... only to be struck shortly thereafter by sudden lightning. Demetrio is fortunately unharmed, but when he comes out he finds himself inexplicably catapulted into Tokyo 1964, right in the middle of the Olympic Games.
