After managing to rescue Prince Cnut from Thorkell's hands, Askeladd and his men are laboriously trying to reach the royal army in Gainsborough. Exhausted and surprised by a violent snowstorm, they decide to occupy a small village in Mercia to refresh themselves and rest. Quest'ultimo decide di mettersi immediatamente in cammino, non solo per riprendersi il principe, ma anche per combattere nuovamente contro Thorfinn, il figlio dell'unico uomo che mai abbia ritenuto più forte di lui!
